March 2015 Updates

Last month we updated you on our student sponsorships for the year. Each student sponsorship guarantees meals, school supplies, bedding, and mosquito nets for the year. At the start of the 2015 school year 60% of our female students had been matched with sponsors and 16% of our male students had sponsors. We requested your immediate action and so many of you rose to the challenge and made the commitment of $21/month for twelve months or a one time donation of $252. Some individuals have even chosen to sponsor more than one student!

As of March, our sponsors have been matched with 70% of our female student body and 55% of our male scholars. We still need your help to make the 2015 school year a success! You've pushed us more than half way to our goal, with current sponsors for 58% of the Marial Bai Secondary School student body.

On February 27th, 2015, the VAD Foundation partnered with HOPE for Ariang and the Canvas Peace Project for a gallery show and art auction at Rhythmix Cultural Works in Alameda, CA. Gabriel Bol Deng, founder of HOPE for Ariang, shared his story with the community. Artists from around the country donated remarkable pieces of art to benefit almost one thousand students ranging from first through twelfth grade. Proceeds from the event will support teachers salaries at Ariang Primary School and Marial Bai Secondary School. Additional art for auction online here and here to support our teachers!

"I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and that there are as few as there are any other great artists. It might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit." John Steinbeck

By giving now, you will help the VAD Foundation continue to provide excellent education, training and vocational programs, and a safe and inspiring learning community on campus for hundreds of South Sudanese youth. Spread the word about VAD Foundation work at Marial Bai Secondary School. Many thanks,
