August 2015 Updates
It has been a busy summer here at the VAD Foundation. Marial Bai Secondary School is preparing for a USAID-sponsored writing workshop, during which thirty students from all of Northern Bahr el Ghazal’s high schools will converge and work together to write a chapbook about peace, conflict, and what South Sudan means to them. These students are the best and brightest of the state, and we are thrilled to have the honor of hosting this workshop. Over the course of two weeks, the students will learn about creative writing, brainstorm, and write their own short stories and essays. We believe the event will foster not only writing skills, but also a sense of peace and unity for students.
As many of you follow, South Sudan continues to struggle to find peace. The ongoing conflict perpetuates mass displacement and puts more citizens at risk of starvation each day. The need for peace is immediate to save lives and heal the new nation. In the spirit of unity, the Luol Deng Foundation will be hosting a South Sudanese cultural celebration on August 29th. If you live in the Washington, DC area, please consider coming out to support the South Sudan Unite event.
As always, the VAD Foundation is grateful for your ongoing support. To stay up to date with MBSS and VAD Foundation news, stay connected to us on social media. One of the best ways to support the work of the VAD Foundation is to share information about South Sudan and the positive impacts being made in South Sudanese communities.
